Marine Terminal Worker Drowns After Fall From Shipboard Ladder [Binh Duong Port, Vietnam – 13 January 2024]

Information reaching Blueoceana Company this evening has us understand that a marine terminal worker (likely a checker), while disembarking an unnamed river transport vessel at the Vietnamese port of Binh Duong, experienced a fall (See video clip, below) from a straight ladder extending horizontally from the vessel to the shore and then immersion in the Dong Nai River [part of the Mekong Delta system, just North of Ho Chi Minh City].

Known to us only as “Mr. V.D.T.” (38 years old), the victim had reportedly boarded the vessel for “container inspection” and apparently fell from the access/egress ladder and into the adjacent waters on his way back to shore. His body was retrieved by police water units some fifteen minutes later.
