Blueoceana Company has been made to understand that Sr. Ricardo Martinez, 58, a refrigeration technician at a marine terminal in the port of Colón, Panamá, fell to his death from an unspecified, “considerable height” on Tuesday, October 12, 2023 during the course of his work there.

UPDATE – 18 October 2023: We now understand that on his lunch break Sr. Martinez chose to take a nap inside a grounded intermodal container. During his nap, an empty handler (side loader) was stacking containers and lifted the container Mr. Martinez occupied and placed it atop a two-high stack. Waking up, Sr. Martinez allegedly pushed open the door of the container and fell approximately twenty (20) feet to the container yard’s pavement.
