Young Cargo Surveyor Suffocates In An Avalanche of Bulk Gypsum [Almeria Port, Espana – 22 May 2017]

Terribly sad news coming to Blueoceana Company this afternoon, from a very close friend at a Spanish port.

Apparently, a young man (25 years old) employed as a cargo surveyor was in the process of taking samples from an export pile of gypsum at the port of Almeria, Andalusia Province, when the face of the pile (estimated to be nearly 20 meters [65 feet] high) collapsed and buried him at approximately 1:30 PM local time.

The news account (a link is provided below) speaks in terms of an attempted rescue that took the better part of an hour before the worker’s body was found and removed.
