Worker Drowns in Staging of Belgian Ro-Ro Operation [Zeebrugge, BE ~ 16 November 2016]

While news coverage has been somewhat lacking, and while we were hoping for something in the way of more tangible, physical facts, Blueoceana Company understands that a port logistics worker (a “shunter”) was drowned when the vehicle he was positioning for loading aboard the pure car carrier M/V MICHIGAN HIGHWAY plunged into the Leopold Canal at Zeebrugge on Wednesday (16 November).

Friends at Zeebrugge have indicated to Blueoceana Company that the weather that [early] morning was substantially overcast with periods of heavy rain accompanied by substantial winds, and that adequate illumination may be at issue in determining cause.

Should other relevant information come our way, we will supplement this posting accordingly.
